How to Choose Your Wedding Reception Songs?

Wedding reception songs are ones that are played during a wedding reception. A list of the more important parts of the reception includes the introduction, first dance, the family dance, the party dance, the bouquet toss, the garter removal toss, the cake cutting, and the last dance.

Remember this is your day; you have total control on which parts of the ceremony to be included. You can opt to have the ethnic dance songs to showcase your cultures and heritages.

  • During the introduction, soft music is more suitable, preferably instrumental. Usually two songs are played, one for the bride and groom, and another is for the bridal party.
  • After they are formally introduced, the bride and groom will dance for the first time as a married couple. This song would probably be the most memorable and a treasure for the rest of your lives together so choose it very carefully.
  • To honor your parents, you can select songs that bring back memories you shared with your parents (“father-daughter wedding songs”, and for “mother-son wedding songs”), or with whom you have a special place in your heart for, such as your step father/mother. Feel free to have their songs played during this moment.
  • Bouquet toss. This tradition should be carried out in a fun way so music should be chosen to suit the upbeat atmosphere.
  • I know some people select to have music played during the garter removal toss. If you do, then choose any upbeat and fun songs for this occasion.
  • Cake cutting: both the bride and groom share the cake-cutting knife to cut the very first slice of the cake. Music should be celebratory.
  • The last dance is meant for the end of the formal reception, but for the married couple, it’s also for the new beginning of your new life together. Choose anything that is memorable and romantic.
